Longchamp 60 : It’s time to celebrate! |
|
French handbag company, Longchamp, is coming up on its 60th Anniversary. A success story started in a French tobacconist in 1948, close the legendary Longchamp horse-racing track, where Jean Cassegrain prepared his first collection of gentleman's smoking accessories. After 60 years, the brand has become a global leader in the accessories market and its most famous collection, Pliage launched in 1994, sold 1.5 million bags per year.
Celebration starting to amazing parties and a new limited collection designed by the Belgian artist Jean-Luc Moerman. JLM designed a 60-piece collection with his signature loops and scribbles. The large tote is based on design from the 1970s archive and no two bags will be the same since they are hand silk screened. Original bags were sold for $6,500 each, but reproductions have also been produced.
Longchamp general manager and founder’s grandson, Jean Cassegrain explains "We are relaunching a line that is very important to our history. We are reproducing our first ever collection of handbags that was designed by my father Philippe in the 1970s for the Japanese market."
This autumn the brand also unveils its most ambitious ready-to-wear offer to date. Developed by a designer whose identity remains undisclosed, the outerwear-heavy range takes classic shapes such as the trench coat and reinterprets them into slim contemporary silhouettes with fastening details that reflect those used on Longchamp's most recognisable bag styles.
I love Longchamp. Its autumn collection offers timeless and stylish design, glossiness and lustre. Have a happy 60th! Can’t wait for what’s more to come!
