IWC Schaffhausen, accuracy of a prestige jeweler
Always the same ritual, always the same impression before an important departure. Family, a walk, a seaside, a physical training and reunion of a team. 9 months, a race, great accuracy, a tribute to courage and passion, this is a new challenge coming now.
A few hours before the kickoff of this 201-2012 Volvo Ocean Race, I am getting prepared and gathering my belongings along with other precious items. Minimum comfort, maximum security and timing perfectly mastered, these are our needs, these are my personal necessities. Around my wrist is a very special watch making creation. Coming from the prestigious manufacture IWC Schaffhauser, this line carries the name of “The Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition – Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012”. During this regatta around the world, time will matter. In this crazy race, I already know I will miss them. Then it is with this famous jeweler’s values and in the challenges of this journey that I know myself and that I will find the strength to keep going.
My imagination is already bringing me to foresee the great beginning of the race at Alicante and this arrival at Galway in Ireland. 72728 kilometers will have been sailed and only one among the six crews will have won. Ours will be this winner everyone so expects to see. I admire this time guardian offered by the IWC firm, the official sponsor of our team, the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. This makes me realize that it is the first time IWC supports a team sport. I feel honored and as If I was given an inexplicable power. The perfection of a watch especially designed for this occasion, the perfect work of a team and the materials chosen must be the reason why I am inhabited by this strong self-confidence.
The time is coming and this time guardian is obsessing me. Its analogical dial will be a serious help to win the prize of the longest distance ever sailed in 24 hours. The titanium will be my assistant. It will be in its resistance that I will be able to find enough strength during those difficult days that we will have to endure. Highly elegant and gifted with sports spirits, it will resist a 6-bar waterproofness, I know so. It is also with one of the most modern and solid caliber that we will leave to sea to win.
