It was at the Geneva Motor Show that Porsche officially presented its 919 Hybrid, a model that will, after a 16-year absence, compete in the 2014 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The stakes are high, as both the history and reputation of the German company in Stuttgart are closely tied to this race. To ensure a triumphant return to the premier class, the title-holding manufacturer of the competition (16 victories) has adapted its racing car in the style of the day.
What is this Porsche 919 armed with? A four cylinder turbo chargedpetrol engine, producing 500 horsepower and with two hybrid systems. The first one transforms the thermal energy from the exhaust pipe into electricity while the second one recuperates the kinetic energy from braking to power the front tyres. A system very close to the one offered by the current Porsche 918 Spyder!
