It was on this past 3 June that Louis Vuitton announced the launch of the “Icon and Iconoclast” project celebrating the fashion house’s emblem: the Monogram.
Six leading figures renowned for their creative genius and their boundless imagination were invited to revisit the Parisian fashion house’s signature: Christian Louboutin, Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Newson and Rei Kawakubo.
Each one had free reign to create a bag and/or piece of luggage made of Monogram canvas that would remain faithful to the spirit of the iconic leather goods name all while possessing a touch of their own universe which characterises them so well.
“We wanted to call upon figures who have a boldness in their style, who work with both their mind and their hands. I found it to be fascinating – and entertaining! – to bring them together and see their different points of view on the Monogram. To observe their artistic approach is so inspiring: these are creative geniuses!” pronounced Delphine Arnault, Associate Managing Director of Louis Vuitton, who is at the origin of this project (with Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of the women’s collection).
The launch evening for the project will take place in New York on 7 November 2014. As for these limited editions (which, we bet, will be quickly sold out), they will be available in a selection of Louis Vuitton stores as of mid-October 2014.
